Article1_Text Having worked with massive design agencies around the world before starting his own, Vince Frost hopped between England and Canada before (wisely) settling in sunny Sydney. His editorial design work turned the heat up and his advertising campaigns lead some punters to reach boiling point. We tapped the graphic guru for some advice on how to make your mark in the wacky world of design.
On my way to pick up my "10 Half-Pods", on display at ArtFields in Lake, City, I stopped to spend the night with long time friend Jo Jeffers. Jo has settled on family owned land that goes back many generations and has that life style that many of us would love for ourselves. One thing I love is that when I see Jo in Florence, she always appears to be quietly and gently "rooted to the earth"... Her son, designed and helped build her beautiful new home nestled into the landscape next to her spacious studio. Add to that she has family, including grandchildren, still living near by and to top it off, she has two adorable 4 legged pets! She cooks from her garden, works to the sounds of the birds and other animals and is surrounded by family, supportive friends and a life time of memories of growing up where she was born.....
Rocking on Jo's wonderful screen porch, taking in the sights of the long needled pine trees, the sandy soil and the gentle fragrance of the land was magical. The short but sweet time we spent together certainly made me feel in so many ways, like I had come home...
Thank you Jo. It is hard to believe our friendship started in our 20's when we both worked at the Gibbes Art Gallery in Charleston, SC.
Watching Jo work with clay was the real beginning of my journey with clay...How about that?

Last Friday evening on May 1, 2015, Kate Furman, a former student, opened a highly publicized exhibition called "Defining She" at Artistry Workshops & Gallery at 12 Andrews St., Greenville, SC. I fact, I would like to applaud them for a very effect use of social media to get the word out! Having said that I want to tell you it is an excellent show, one of the best I have seen in quite some time and well worth your time to go and see it!
Kate recently returned to Greenville, after completing an advanced jewelry and metals degree at Rhode Island School of Design. In photographs the work is impressive and stands alone in its uniqueness but in reality the work completely took my breath away! The creative vision is like no other as you will see for yourself. Yet, the work couples Kate's amazing skill with metals with the roughest of Nature's materials in a way that is both stunning and startling! Kate, no doubt has a working relationship with her materials that pays homage to those amazing discoveries one can make in the natural world, if only you take the time to look....
Emily Clarke, Jessie Kendall and Rachel Vann also had superb offerings for the show. Though each young woman had a highly personal and vastly different vision for their work, the work created a strangely elegant harmony...

Emily was Roger's Mom. She and I shared a deep love for flowers and gardening. When she passed away and Roger was packing up her house in Tulsa, Oklahoma, I told him to pull up some of her favorite iris, put them in a box and mail them. He did and now Emily's iris are not only blooming in mass in front of our home but you can see them up and down our street in front of other people's mailboxes who also loved them! They are the old fashioned scented kind that also happen to be very hardy. I am sure Emily would be delighted!
Fun & laughter galore! I only wish I could show their wonderful smiles but then, I think you get the picture! This is what keeps me coming back to teaching Middle School art in case you ever wondered!
"One-Stop Open Studios 2015" is a special exhibition at the Metropolitan Arts Council. The exhibit runs from April 29 through June 17, 2015 and will be open to the public during Artisphere weekend hours. For details contact MAC http://www.greenvillearts.com/
My small ceramic sculpture, "Acorn and Cap" will be shown in "One-Stop Open Studios 2015". This is always a wonderful show to visit if you want to see a large number of small but excellent works of art by Greenville's best artists. If you are just starting an art collection, this is a great place to begin!

Our 5 "rescue fish" are swimming in our rusty wheelbarrow waiting to return to a clean pond! I call them our "rescue fish" because I purchased them as tiny feeder fish some 5 or 6 years ago. We started with 15 feeder fish for $2.50 at PetsMart. Rosie, our parti poodle, caught 3 to play with, a copperhead bit one and others seemed to mysteriously disappear, probably a raccoon smart enough to reach under the net. These gorgeous survivors are now close to a foot in length and happy to return to a clean pond!
